Nyesom E. Wike |
The newly-appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, disclosed that he sought approval from key leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before accepting the ministerial role offered by President Bola Tinubu.
Mr. Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and a PDP member, faced public criticism for accepting the appointment, given his previous statement that he wouldn't serve as a minister after being a governor.
Addressing these criticisms during his inaugural press briefing as a minister, Mr. Wike explained that he had written letters to various PDP leaders, including the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagun, the current Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as well as Minority Leaders in both the Senate and House of Representatives.
He sought their permission to accept the ministerial offer, and all of these PDP leaders granted him permission to do so.
Mr. Wike emphasized the importance of truth and refuted claims of sanctions against him, highlighting that he followed due procedure in accepting the appointment and had documented evidence of the permissions granted by PDP leaders.
